Welcome to HSBC Clean Air Achievers
Thank you for choosing to be part of our HSBC Clean Air Achievers (CAA). The goal of CAA, regardless of the age of its participants, is to reduce greenhouse gas (GHGs) emissions via participants choosing more sustainable, and ideally more active modes of transportation.
What is involved?
CAA's online calculator tool, Trip Tracker, allows you to record the travel trips you make in your everyday life (to work, to a child's soccer practice, etc.). By choosing travel that is less polluting you will reduce the amount of GHGs being released into our atmosphere. And, if you replace GHG travel with active transportation (i.e. walking, running or rolling) you have the double benefit of enhancing your fitness and health.
The steps are simple:- Register with a username and password
- Calculate your Pre-CAA trip distances (mapping tools available)
- Enter in your current, cleaner and more active trip distances and the modes of travel
Trip Tracker will instantly give you your GHG and km results per trip and cumulatively for all trips entered!
Why should I do this?
Climate change, global warming, poor air quality and related health impacts (i.e. lung disease and obesity) are serious realities facing Canadians of all ages today.
We all need to start decreasing the amount of GHG we are creating and increase our levels of physical activity - active transportation addresses both these goals.
Did you know that 50% of the total GHGs produced by the average Canadian are attributed to personal vehicle travel?
Every step does count!
Who is behind HSBC Clean Air Achievers?
CAA is a program of Clean Air Champions (CAC), a national charity founded by retired national team athletes and professionals in the environmental sciences field. The Champions are comprised of over 130 retired national team athletes, Olympians and Paralympians from across Canada who share the common goal to improve air quality and inspire Canadians to adopt lifestyles that enhance environmental and personal health.
CAA is made possible through the generous support of our sponsors including:
HSBC Bank CanadaHonda Canada and earthdreams Foundation
Ontario Trillium Foundation
Government of Ontario (Communities in Action Fund)
Transport Canada (Moving on Sustainable Transportation)
We hope you enjoy using the Trip Tracker and invite you to share your CAA stories with us. We are particularly interested to hear if your son or daughter introduced you to CAA via their class participation. We have found that involvement of families in the CAA program (i.e. helping youth modify their travel habits) has a direct impact in the overall benefits for youth, our air, and our communities.
By joining CAA we can all make a difference, one step at a time.
Happy, Healthy and Safe Travels!
