Long-term exposure to ground-level ozone (or smog) can irritate the eyes and be harmful to the lungs. Exposure to smog can result in shortness of breath, pain when taking deep breaths, wheezing, fatigue, headaches and nausea. Ozone harms the air sacs in the lungs where oxygen and carbon dioxide are exchanged.
