About HSBC Clean Air Achievers

Who is behind HSBC Clean Air Achievers?

HSBC Clean Air Achievers (HSBC/CAA) is a program of Clean Air Champions (CAC).

CAC is a national not-for-profit organization founded by retired national team athletes and professionals in the environmental sciences field. The Champions are comprised of over 140 retired national team athletes, Olympians and Paralympians from across Canada who share the common goal to improve air quality and inspire Canadians to adopt lifestyles that enhance environmental and personal health.

What are the program goals?

The goals of the program are for each participant to:

  1. Produce fewer greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) through reduced reliance on the automobile; and
  2. Enhance their level of fitness by choosing active modes of transportation (walking, cycling, rolling etc.) in place of being driven in an automobile.

What does it involve?

The program includes in-class teacher led activities, online trip recording (in Trip Tracker), and two visits by a Clean Air Champion athlete (see below). The output from Trip Tracker tells you how much greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) you prevented by choosing less polluting (and hopefully more active) modes of travel. This online calculator also tallies the kilometres you have traveled by each mode of travel, revealing both the actual values and the percentages (comparing to all modes of travel you entered).

Just follow the instructions on this website to register and you will be on your way to becoming a Clean Air Achiever in no time.

What is the role of the Champion?

Our HSBC/CAA Champions are there to help and inspire you throughout the program. They will deliver two awesome presentations to your class and will become your program coaches, motivating you to give it your personal best. In the first presentation, the Champion will review and launch the HSBC/CAA program. In the second, he/she will wrap up the program with congratulations, and distribute the Certificates of Achievement to HSBC Clean Air Achievers.
